At Cindemir Law Office, we provide comprehensive legal support to foreign nationals and their families who wish to visit individuals detained or convicted in Turkish prisons. Our services cover the entire process—from preparing the application to obtaining the necessary official permission from the Turkish authorities. We act in accordance with Turkish prison regulations and ensure that the rights of inmates and their relatives are respected within the bounds of the law. According to Article 27 of the Regulation on the Visitation of Convicted and Detained Individuals, foreign prisoners in Turkey may be visited by: A legally married spouse Blood and in-law relatives up to the third degree A legally appointed guardian or trustee Up to three other individuals listed at the time of admission to the prison Visits may be held once per week, during business hours, and must last no less than 30 minutes and no more than one hour. The visitor must: Apply to the public prosecutor’s office at least one week in advance Submit proof of family or legal relationship Provide a copy of passport or national ID Declare full identity and contact information of the inmate In cases involving terrorism or organized crime charges, the application must be made to the Ministry of Justice at least 15 days before the intended visit. ⚠️ Important: Inmates sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment are not eligible for standard visitation rules. Foreign visitors are typically granted priority for open (face-to-face) visits, and may be allowed to visit outside regular visitation days. Individuals with dual citizenship may be treated as either Turkish or foreign nationals depending on the inmate’s status. Former Turkish citizens are treated as foreign nationals under visitation rules. Officially married inmates or those with first- or second-degree relatives in the same facility may be allowed mutual visits, upon approval by the Ministry. Before any visit is granted, the inmate must confirm the relationship with the visitor. Copy of valid passport or national ID Marriage certificate, birth certificate, or other proof of relation Proof of address (utility bill, residence card, etc.) A formal petition stating the purpose of the visit Power of attorney, if applicable ✅ Preparing and submitting visitation applications Our firm provides legal services across Turkey and supports families who need to visit inmates in facilities such as Silivri, Şakran, Sincan, Maltepe, Kandıra, and others.
